: I have a kitty and 2 big huskys. The bottom line is that I care more for the well being of my cat than I do for my furniture (which is expensive and new, too.) I give him other things to claw and even have a can (covered in pretty paper)with pennies in it. When I'm not home I set it on the edge of the couch and belive me when it falls off and I'm not there he freaks out. When I am home I shake the can and it makes him think twice. I wouldn't do anything that there may even be a "slight" chance of harm and again the bottom line is if you care for your material possesions that much--DONT GET A CAT. It's not fair. If you really love them just say "no" to declawing.
