declawing

As I've said - on many an occasion before -

I am extremely anti declawing cats. here in the UK,
it is not done, unless there is a valid medical reason.
The vet I use for my cat has NEVER declawed a cat and
can't think of any reason why anyone would want to carry
out such an unnecessary operation.

This other operation, described in some Net articles,
of cutting the tendons, sounds like a let out for
owners to be able to say, "I didn't declaw my cat."
But the effect is the same, i.e., the cat cannot use
its claws. I am rapidly coming to the conclusion I am
against this too.

Surely it is up to responsible cat owners, who take
the time to train their cats with love and consideration
to try and get the message across. A cat is for life,
it is a living object to be treated with respect.

A cat is NOT a fashion accessory or a lifestyle
accessory.

Please let us educate that time and effort is all
that is required to train a cat to use a scratching
post.

Don't mutilate your cat. Helen S
