I wish people would stop solving a problem the easy way for them and start solving it the right way. There are many ways to stop your cat from scratching your house apart then just taking the easy way out and having their entire first joint removed!! Why don't people try a training routine first!! Such as filling a spray bottle with water and when your cat starts scratching something spray the water in the bottle at them. Not only do they react to the water but also the sound of the spray. There are many other solutions out there then this in-humane way of dealing with this problem. Yes, trimming a cat's claws can be difficult. It still is every time I try to cut my cat's claws. She hates it too. Your cat is like your child, I hope. If your child was breaking things in your house you would stop the behavior over time with what ever you find works to stop it. You wouldn't have their fingers cut off to their first knuckle would you?? What would you do if your cat ever got out. Yes, I know they say "Leave the back one's on and the cat will be fine if it got outside." Sure tell that to your cat when your neighbors huge dog is after it and it can't make it up that tree. You'll wish you just took the time to use some very simple techniques to solve the problem!! PLEASE think about it.
