This is a great site. About 6 months ago, I had to put my best friend "TALISMAN", to sleep. He was an orange stray that found me about 17 years ago. I named him "TALISMAN", because I felt he would be my "good luck" charm..... As it turned out, I was his "good luck" charm.... He was very healthy until he was about 14 years old. Then he developed bone cancer in his right front leg. After much research on the subject, I had his leg amputated. I was not easy, for him or me, but I felt "HE" was so worth giving him a chance to live a few more years. As it turned out he lived it another 2 years and 5 months, "Which is GREAT for a Cat Cancer Surviver!" Eventually he developed limphoma, (he was now geriatric at 16 1/2 years or so) and had to be put to sleep. I am writing this to inform other cat owners, in the event they become faced with this situation, to do the research, find the best veternary surgen, and GO FOR IT! I'm so glad I did! Heidi <norcalway2be@sbcglobal.net> Napa Valley CA I just want to say that I really love this site. I have been a cat lover all my life. Some past cat names I have had have been: "Tomard",( a cat I had when I was a little girl) Also, "Toom", "Patches", "Addy", Which was short for "Addy-Tood", cause she really had a hyped up attitude, and "Mr.Puff"....Now we have just recently adopted a Persian kitten, only 12 weeks old, and when I couldn't think of a name for her, I found this site with some great names to choose from. Keep up the good work, I will definately visit with this site again in the future. Debbie <stilt4@msn.com> Virginia USA Im a big cat lover, I totally love the site! Its so cute that follow cat lovers can be like me. If anyone does read this, Im looking for cat lovers like me that love cats. We have 4 cats of our own. They can be so spoiled, but they are well worth it! My heart goes out to the people in the Hurricane Katrina aftermath, & all those people that lost their pets. My heart goes out to you! Marie Scotton <dreamerpoet85@yahoo.com> Willow Street PA USA What a wonderful informative site well done! and I would like to recommend www.Seapets.co.uk for all of your pet, pond, fish, bird, aquarium and aquatic supplies. They're very good, please pay them a visit. www.Seapets.co.uk vicki churchill UK Some wonderful cat names: Patches, Misty, Hal, Marvin, Toby, Bear, Chalky, Roly-Poly, Stray Cat (SC), Garfield, Baby Hal, Baby Hal, III, Trouble, Snuggles, Kitto, Chloe, Zoe, Starr, Mischief, Spot, Kamikaze, Boo, Calamity Kat, Chaos, Ricochet, Chub-Chub, Bandit, Frisky, Catapult, Crash, Mighty Mouse, Badger, Static Cling, Shredder, Hurrikitty, Chewy, Mayhem, Catastrophe and Munchkin. Starting with Chloe, the rest of the names are potential names for my new adopted daughter. Patches and Misty were sisters we adopted over twelve years ago. Hal was a stray that showed up one day with her sister. Her sister had a bullet wound and we took her to the vet, who took over her care and finding a home for her. Hal (whom we initally thought was a boy, hence the name) then had kittens, one of which grew to have kittens of her own, and hence the three generations of Hal. Marvin was Baby Hal's brother who attached himself to my mom. Patches and Marvin where both stolen from our home, which broke both my heart and my mother's. Patches was a beautiful calico with six toes and Marvin was a tiger tabby, with very striking markings. My new daughter is a small ball of fluff with an orange spot on the top of her gray head and a white mark on her chest. She is a terror. :) Rae Middletown New York More cat names, if you can add any more: Bouncy, for a male tiger kitten that seemed to hop everywhere rather than walk. High strung, startled easily. A great mouser as an adult. Snake, for our second cat, named from the Jimmy Buffett song "Gypsies In The Palace," which has the line, "Me and Snake will watch your place and treat it like our own." MiTu (me too), for a male Siamese mix cat that followed us everywhere, even on walks outside, and who was rather vocal. Demanded to be part of everything. Yeti, for a Himalayan mix. A Yeti is like a blond Bigfoot, the legendary snow monster of the Himalayas in Tibet. Debbie Keene NH USA This is a great site it gave me the best name for my cat! His name is Sabastian! I have 5 cats (Wiener, Chucky, Ozzie, Kahli & Pooh), one rabbit (Spot), 2 fish and a frog. Traditionally, I like to have 2 cats at a time. Then Chucky adopted us because he looked just like the 2 gray striped tabbies we had at the time. Then, we lost our oldest to FIV and Chucky needed a playmate. Being the alley cat that he was, he was way too rough for the 8 year old Wiener. So, out of grief and despiration to rid the world of sick and homeless cats, we began our rescue efforts. That only lasted about a year, but our last adoptee was a pregnant, feral female. She had 5 kittens. We swore that we would only keep 1 but only ended up finding homes for the mother and 2 of the kittens. I applaude everyone's rescue efforts. I wish it were possible to save them all! Olspice <olspice@ivillage.com> Indianapolis IN USA Hi I was really surprised that there is actually a site that is about hairballs. I mean I love cats. But I just wanted to let everyone know that its just so funny to me. Melissa <lissa69_88@hotmail.com> USA I have been feeding homeless cats & kittens for the past 4-5 years. All of a sudden they stopped coming for their daily meal. Then I learned a neighbor had set out a cat-trap and one by one caught them in it and had them all killed! How in heavens name, can we stop this from happening? What kind of people are out there in this world? This neighbor who caught the homeless cats, has 2 cats of his own. They are not allowed in the home, therefore, their food is left outside. Because the homeless were also eating his cats food, he sent them all to their death! Please help these little friends. Show me how to start, where to go, who to talk with and start a program and laws to protect these animals. JEFFREY BURGOYNE ATLANTA GA USA I love cats and have had them all my life. My husband and I have been fostering cats for 5 years, we currently have more than 50. I have recently been diagnosed with asthma and am told that it is aggravated by pet dander. We need help finding good homes for at least half of our cats. They are all 1-3 years old, healthy, spayed/neutered, leukemia negative and are really wonderful cats. We would be interested in any no-kill facilities or shelters in California, or anyone out there interested in adopting a cat. Please call us at (925) 757-3288. Ronda Hart Antioch CA USA LACEY: 3 year old female, pure white long haired cat. She is sometype of Angora from what the vet says. She has all of her current shots, feline leuk tests & shots, she is licensed for 2000-2001 and is a beautiful baby. I adopted her 2 years ago from the SPCA, she was due to be destroyed the next day. She was very shy, timid, skinny and skittish. She has drastically improved and gained weight. She is @ 12 lbs and very lovable now. HOWEVER, she will only use her litter pans (3 every floor of the house) for poo. She will urinate NEXT TO IT! I have tried every type of litter on the market, had her checked for u.t.i. and to no avail. I have 2 dogs and another cat which she doesn't like at all! In fact, if the dogs are out she will come downstairs, but if they are in, she hides and won't eat; which is a big part of Lacey's problem. I have to go find her to make sure she eats and drinks! This is no way for a cat to live. She loves kids as she sleeps at the foot of my 5 year old's bed. Lacey's ideal home would be with no children, and no other pets. She needs doting and tons of attention even though she is quite independent. As for her "pee-pee" problem, she needs a confined area to be kept in. I wouldn't leave her unattended as she will mark NEXT TO HER PAN! I truly hope someone will help and give this baby a good home. She needs the attention I just can't give her, plus she has already been a prisoner at the local SPCA, if I have to take her back, she will be euthanized almost immediately. We love her but I just can't keep up with her. I truly tried to be a responsible pet owner, as I am with my other animals, but she clearly needs more time and devotion than I can give her. Please help. Call me anytime to discuss her adoption further. I can be reached at: Work: 6106671649 ext. 265 and please tell the receptionist is a personal call regarding Lacey or at Home: 6106223666 after 4 p.m. or Saturday or Sunday and of course, via email: jjozwiak@smcresearch.com or jozwiak@home.com. I would like to hear from other cat lovers as to what they might like to see in this kind of newsletter. So far it will contain sections for: stories (a different theme each month), questions/answers/tips from readers, several articles pertinent to the time of year and on different health-related issues (written by or with the help of vets), possibly a section to highlight a different cat-related organization each month, and a classified section. I would love to hear from you if you have any suggestions. I want this to be tailored to to the readers. I mysellf have had cats for over 20 years and know what a special part of your life they can be. Not to long ago we got 10 kittens in and found homes for 9, the 10th being to sick to move, i can now say he is healthy and a little imp. he loves to shoulder sit and sleeps hidden in my neck. my hubsand built a room for my cats, it has carpet, a ceiling fan, 2 windows with carpet. many toys, beds, and places to be out of the way. we are thinking of putting a run to the outside so they can enjoy the air and watch the birds, while still being safe. this has become a consuming hobby for me. my kittens don't go to just anyone. maybe i should not be so choosey, but i am. we keep tabs on all the cats that leave here and it is many. each of my cats has their own story as to how they came to us. i find it fun to talk about , like they are my childern, and they are.i would love to hear from anyone looking to talk cat talk. i may be slow getting back to you but i will. this is a subject that is very near to my heart. i would enjoy hearing from others as outrageous as myself, using my hubsands words. mary <fisherej@freewwweb.com> westminster md. usa What a lovely way to meet other cat-loving people! Laura Aust <lsaust@pcpartner.net> Cambridge IA USA This is a great sight. I'm glad somebody finally decided to help take care of our little tigers. Before I moved, I lived on a rural route, and it was a dirt road, so you could pretty much say there was no highway near by. Anyway, across the street, there was a family of about 7 cats, mothers, daughters and sons, aunts, uncles, you name it. Anyway, I soon found out after taking in one beautiful kitten that the the cats were seriously under fed and dehydrated. When I told my mother (I'm now 15, but then I was 14), she said there was nothing we could do, even when I suggested the humane society. She simply said that no one cared about cats no more, only dogs because they saved lives (I have since then proven to her that many cats have saved lives, too). So I gave up on any possible help from her or the humane society, and began to take matters into my own hands. The owners of the cats and the land that the cats lived on did not live there, but a few miles down the road, so every time the owners left after taking care of the "prize" rabbits that the cats shared the land with, I would go to the end of the road, calling them and shaking a food bowl with cat food in it. The cats gradually became much healthier, although I know that the following spring, 3 of them died of worms. The cats soon became to expect my visit, and we became great friends. Danielle Rex <drex@trinityindustries.com> Mayslanding NJ USA i think that fostering cats in your apartment is a wonderful thing to do, i have oftern tried to foster a cat and before i had a chance to relocate the kitty she ended up a part of our family. i live a two bedroon apartment and have three cats, two of which started out as fosters. since the third addition my husband has put his foot down so to speak, and any cats i bring in from now on are taken the atlanta humane society the next day to avoid a fourth addition. heather hinson <onemom6031@aol.com> atlanta ga usa heather hinson I have been fostering cats and kittens from the Wisconsin Humane Society for about a year now. I live in a two-bedroom apartment, and I keep them in the second bedroom (that I call "The Maid's Room," although the maid certainly doesn't do much work around there!) I have two full-grown cats of my own (Mouse and Neil Diamond), and I had to pay a $200 deposit to my landlord in order to be able to foster. I usually acquire a mother and kittens that are sometimes no more than two days old! All I have to do is keep the litter box clean and watch them grow up. That's the easy part. The mother does all the work! I keep them until they're about eight or nine weeks old and ready to be adopted. Then I take them back and get another family. Right now I have five eight-week old kittens that don't have a mother. And, they all have colds, so I have to give them antibiotics twice a day. If you love cats and have the room, I recommend fostering very highly! Call you're local Humane Society because, I'm sure, they're always looking for foster "parents." cjk Carol J. Nancy St. Paul MN USA Interested in becoming involved in cat rescue Kirstin Jones <jcj01@sprynet.com> El Cajon ca usa HELP!!! A stray kitten bit me by accident while I was feeding it. I'm new to South Carolina and the environmental control people came in and took her and said they would quarantine her for 10 days. I said that's good because the kitten would go to a shelter. They said , "no, because it's a rabies case, they put it to sleep after the 10 days." I argued and said I would adopt the kitten. They don't allow people to adopt them. The kitten probably does not have rabies -- and even when they PROVE it, I'm not allowed to adopt it. What sense does that make? My Miss Kitty is what I call my "Angel Afoot". I believe our paths crossed for a reason and I decided to take it upon myself to take care of her. She was emaciated and had ear mites. Now she is a beautiful little girl (spayed, of course) and she loves me as much as I love her. I also have a Tonkinese (who is "my boy" - fixed of course) but he was to be a throw away kitty if I wasn't to intervene. They give us unconditional love with out workds - what more could you ask for. Wanda bonner <wbonner@ima.plus.com> Orange Park FL USA What I loved about Minnie. His orenge soft furre, His content purr, His loving stare, and his warning glare, The way he lounged and always stayed, our love that grew his last few days, his rough tounge agienst my nose, his ittie, bittie little toes, All of these I will miss, plus much, much more, for his little head no longer peeks out the door. He's gone for now, but I can see, his love and memory lives on with me. Angela <tsweet2565@aol.com> We just got our first cat last year, from the Humane Society. Lauderdale Fl USA Everyone pet lover should boycott animal food products that contain "meat byproducts", better known as roadkill, rabbits, horses and leftovers from slaughterhouses. Many veternarians sell cats and dogs hit by cars to "renderers". Renderers toss the dead animals into ovens, collars et al, and melt them into muffin-shaped cubes for pet food companies.
